If you have moderate acne and are uncomfortable taking antibiotics, or you are unhappy with your current topical treatment results, BLU-U blue light therapy may be something for you to try. Blu-u is an easy, safe, and non-invasive treatment that is easy and fast to schedule.
The BLU-U is a unique blue light that kills the P. acnes bacteria in your skin. Treatments are simple: you sit with your face close to the light for a short time, approximately a 17-minute session about once or twice per week. The treatments may go on for roughly five weeks (amount of treatment depends on the desired outcome). It is safe, there is no intense heat involved, and the treatment is painless. After some weeks, the blue light can help control your acne.
The BLU-U blue light is available in the office of doctors who specialize in skin treatments. You can ask your doctor if your case of moderate acne is right for BLU-U blue light treatment. If you are looking for an alternative to medications or antibiotics, it might be just what you need.

Therma Scan (pulsed energy at a 1319 nm wavelength) allows controlled heating of sub-epidermal layers of the skin. This is ideal for non-invasive wrinkle and acne scar treatment through collagen remodeling, or for treating acne by heating sebaceous glands, thereby minimizing oil production. This procedure will lead to collagen remodeling, a proliferation of active fibroblasts, and treating over-acting sebaceous glands that result in the reduction of acne and improve acne scarring non-ablatively.
This is a non-invasive treatment and there is no downtime associated with this treatment. You may have some redness of the face which will resolve within 20-30 minutes.
Photo Dynamic Therapy
Acne treatment with Levulan Photo-Dynamic Therapy is for the most aggressive treatment of stubborn acne, where we utilize BLU-U Therapy with Levulan. This treatment uses Levulonic acid as an added agent when photo-rejuvenation is used.
The Levulonic acid is applied to the skin, which is absorbed by active cells, such as acne sebaceous glands, making the targeted acne cells more sensitive to the light. This combined interaction of the solution and the light is what gives rise to the term "photodynamic therapy." The Levulonic acid will also target sebaceous hyperplasia (which are small (1-3mm) benign bumps under the skin) and the papules of acne rosacea.
This is a 2 phase treatment:
Levulonic acid, which is a clear painless solution, is applied to your skin and left on for 60 minutes
It is then activated with BLU-U which takes about 20 min
