What is Juvederm® ?
Juvederm® (made by Allergan, the makers of Botox Cosmetic) is made of cross-linked hyaluronic acid, a type of sugar naturally found in your skin and connective tissues. What makes Juvederm® so special is that once it is injected into the body, Juvederm® start absorbing water like a dry sponge and plumps up the area in which it was injected. Juvederm® is FDA approved for the treatment of moderate to severe nasolabial folds (smile lines from the nose to around the mouth), but is also often used to plump up the lips and to lessen the appearance of tired bags under the eyes. Learn more about Juvederm at www.juvederm.com
How long does Juvederm® last?
Juvederm® has been shown to last for up to 12 months. After injection the body naturally starts breaking Juvederm® down into simple sugars and this process may take a total of 6-12 months or more to complete. In the mean time, you enjoy the benefits of decreased lines and wrinkles and increased fullness in the lips.
Does Juvederm® hurt?
Juvederm® is well tolerated by most patients. Allergan's Juvederm Ultra XC comes premixed with lidocaine, making the injections much more comfortable than previous fillers. Numbing creams can help with any discomfort and a local anesthetic injection is always done for sensitive areas like the lips at no extra cost.
How will I look post-treatment of Juvederm® ?
Post-treatment injection sites will have some redness and swelling. Most patients can return to work the next day without any problems. Lip augmentation with Juvederm® will look grossly enlarged for the first 24-48 hours with a return to normalcy in 3-5 days.
Post procedure instructions:
You may ice the area treated to help reduce swelling and redness. Icing should be done a maximum of 10 minutes every 2-3 hours. Dr. Bembi recommends not touching the area or massaging the area the first 2 weeks.
Can I do Juvederm and Botox® at the same visit?
Yes. Botox® Cosmetic and dermal fillers such as Juvederm® are often used together to give the total non-surgical rejuvenation. Most patients choose to undergo both treatments at the same time to reduce the inconvenience of coming back. Others choose to do them separately for financial or other reason.
Where is Juvederm administered?
Juvederm® can be administered anywhere you want volume, including cheeks, under eye area, nasolabial folds (smile lines), and even the chin and jawline.
Who will be doing my Juvederm Injections?
All Juvederm injections are done by Dr. Atul Bembi D.O and Wendy Amezcua P.A-C
Dr. Bembi has over 12 years experience in doing cosmetic injections, with thousands of injections done safely and effectively, while Wendy Amezcua has had extensive training by Dr. Bembi in.
Are Juvederm injections safe?
Juvederm® was approved by the FDA on June 2006. Juvederm has since dominated the filler market due to its safety, ease of injection, and long lasting results. Dr. Bembi consistently uses Juvederm as his filler of choice for general applications and likes Juvederm voluma for the under eye area.
