Laser Peel with The PROFILE™ CONTOUR™

Profractional Deep Skin Resurfacing
What is Contour?

The Contour laser is the new gold standard for skin peel. This advanced laser allows to precisely vary the depth of peel for maximum results and faster recovery times.

What is laser skin resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is one of the leading cosmetic procedures in the United States. The process utilizes a laser to minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles, as well as improve the overall texture of the skin.

How does laser skin resurfacing work?

Lasers work by emitting a specialized light that passes through the skin and is preferentially absorbed by water in the damaged collagen of your skin. This action allows the laser light to ablate (evaporate) very fine layers of skin, diminishing the look of the wrinkle and other unwanted textures. The older skin is remodeled into newer skin. As new cells form in the healing process, the skin becomes smoother and softer. Several lasers and light sources are available today for skin resurfacing.

Why choose laser skin resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing offers patients many benefits. The procedure is truly "incisionless," provides consistent results, and offers the surgeon precise control. Its faster recovery time means that it can also delay or eliminate the need for the more invasive face-lift surgery.

What conditions can be treated with Contour ?

For skin resurfacing and applications requiring ablation, vaporization and coagulation of soft tissue which includes: Wrinkles, Epidermal Nevi, Acne Scars, Solar lentigines, Actinic Keratoses, Hypertrophic Scars, Syringoma, Surgical Scars

What will the Contour laser do?

We will use Contour to remove thin layers of your skin's surface, which will be replaced by younger skin growth. Only Contour has the ability to provide a treatment that is optimized to your skin condition. Your wrinkles will soften and become less noticeable, some will disappear, and pigmented lesions will greatly improve.

What areas can be treated?

All skin areas can be treated. Popular areas are the face, neck, chest and hands. Discuss your needs with us.

What will happen during the procedure?

Your face with be numbed with a topical cream. Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses.

Contour's laser beam will be delivered through a computer-controlled device that automatically scans the area of your skin being treated. You may hear a snapping or popping noise as the laser gently removes the outer skin cells.

Your procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour depending on the size of the area to be treated and the depth of your peel.

What aftercare will I need?

It is important to follow your  aftercare instructions. You will be given some skin care products and instructions on how to use them. This will minimize your risk for infection and ensure the shortest healing time. The top layer of your skin will re-grow and be covered with make-up in about one week.

Your new skin will be very sensitive to ultra-violet light and you must avoid sun exposure until fully healed. You need to cover your skin, wear a hat and use a good sun screen if your have to go outdoors.

How long will it take me to recover?

Your healing time will depend upon your actual treatment depth, and you may experience erythema (redness) which may last several weeks. Healing time does vary among individuals.

What should I expect after treatment?

It will take a few days to replace the surface of your skin. Redness is common and swelling may be present in the areas treated, however, this should subside in a few hours. We will instruct you how best to care for your healing skin. Your skin will have a residual pink or red color that will dissolve over time.

Will it be uncomfortable?

The amount of discomfort varies from patient to patient. We will discuss your anesthesia options to properly manage any discomfort from the treatment.

Is there a risk?

Following the correct aftercare procedures prescribed to you will reduce the risk of infection. You will return to us for follow-up visits to ensure excellent healing.

What are the side effects?

As with any surgical procedure, there are risks and side-effects associated with laser skin resurfacing. We will review with you in detail any risks involved in the procedure.

Is the procedure painful?

You will be given either a topical or local anesthetic during the procedure. Sedation can also be provided. Most patients describe the post-procedure feeling as a bad sunburn; this feeling will subside in a few days. Cold compresses will also help subdue the discomfort.

How soon will I see results?

Because your skin will heal over a period of several weeks, you may not see the final results until then. As your skin heals, and as new collagen regenerates and fills in the lines and wrinkles, your results will continue to improve. Results will continue to improve for months.

This treatment can be combined with skin tightening and laser peel. Come in for a consultation for more details.

The Sciton Profractional Laser is a significant improvement over previous fractional laser resurfacing systems. This unique fractional laser resurfacing technology leaves the surrounding tissue unaffected and intact. Fractional laser treatments with the Profractional laser allows your skin to heal much faster than if the entire skin surface was treated at once. Profractional laser treatments treat sun spots and age spots, improves uneven pigmentation and improves wrinkles, stretch marks, and acne scars with minimal downtime.

Dr. Jason Pozner, a Plastic Surgeon in Boca Raton, FL said, "This depth of treatment is significant for effectively treating wrinkles and tightening the skin and should provide a significant advantage over current fractional technology. I have used ProFractional alone and also combined it with a MicroLaserPeel to provide results comparable to deep resurfacing with significantly less recovery time."

Profractional laser treatments offer dramatic results and quick healing for patients interested in improving wrinkles, acne scars and skin texture with little to no downtime. Dr. Mark Hagberg explains that the laser is indeed worthy of the praise it’s receiving in the cosmetic industry: “The ProFractional™ laser is similar to previous fractional devices, but what sets this new laser apart is the quick healing time and comfort level during treatment,” he says. “Our patients are excited about the ProFractional laser because they can see results more rapidly with a shorter recovery time than Fraxel® or many other laser treatments.”

Profractional laser treatments are minimally ablative or invasive. The procedure creates tiny channels reaching depths appropriate for correcting acne scars, wrinkles and texture issues. This allows for a very comfortable treatment. So comfortable in fact, many ProFractional laser treatments do not require topical anesthetic.

What is the ProFractional Laser Treatment?

The Profractional Laser Treatment is a "fractional" treatment that produces thousands of deep, tiny columns in your skin without affecting any of the surrounding tissue. This reduces discomfort and shortens healing time while promoting the skin's natural process for creating new, healthier tissue to replace the damaged cells.

How is the Profractional laser different from other laser treatments?

Before Profractional laser treatments, there were two types of available laser treatments. Fully ablative laser treatments and non-ablative treatments. Fully ablative laser treatments involve vaporization of entire layers of skin cells at very high temperature. This treatment is very effective but is associated with a high incidence of side effects and typically requires a lengthy healing period. Non-ablative laser treatments can have a lower incidence of side effects and little healing time, but requires numerous treatments over many months and has widely variable results. Profractional treatments strive to offer the effectiveness of ablative lasers with the benefits of the gentler, non-ablative lasers.

How does the Profractional laser work?

The Profractional Laser Treatment is designed to target specific portions of damaged tissue. By creating microscopic "wounds" within the targeted areas, Profractional laser treatments trigger the body's natural healing process accelerating the production of collagen and new, healthy skin cells.

What are the risks of ProFractional Laser Treatments?

Swelling and redness are the most common side effects from treatment. If swelling does occur, it is minimal and generally subsides within a day or two. Redness may occur and will fade within a few days. Peeling may also occur. There is a very limited risk of infection or scarring.

How many treatments will I need?

Clinical studies suggest that on average, an effective treatment regimen is 1-3 sessions, spaced approximately 4 weeks apart. Results are immediate and progressive. Optimal improvement is usually visible in about 2 to 3 months. This time frame and treatment structure allows for complete healing and replacement of damaged tissue with new collagen and elastin, and viable healthy skin cell growth.

Is the ProFractional Laser Treatment painful?

Most patients describe the treatment as having a "prickling" sensation. A topical anesthetic is available if desired.

What precautions should I take after treatment?

We recommend using an antimicrobial ointment during the healing process. You must apply sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher (UVA/UVB) after every two hours of sun exposure. Avoid direct sun exposure during the healing process and for at least 3 months after treatment.
